Tsunami Relief Work

26th December 2004:
Tsunami struck the eastern peninsular coast of South India. In association with the government and other NGOs the affected areas were sectioned off and plans were put into action.
January 2005:
An EHSO team surveyed their dedicated area which comprised of 655 families.The were supplied with food, clothing and counselling.
February2005:
“Peter Project” was launched providing fishermen with 12 boats & nets enabling them to restart their profession.
March 2005:
“Naomi Project” commenced to provide 120 families with rice, dhal, sugar, vessels, grinders & sewing machines.
April2005:
The Tsunami Relief Office was inagurated with the functioning of the first Tailoring Training School was started.
May 2005:
Home Needs Packs containing rice, flour, dhal, edible oil, talcum, washing and bathing soaps were distributed to 120 families and temporary house structures for 12 families.
June 2005:
Fish vehicles were given to 3 families, Fast Food Kitchen necessities was provided for 2 families and an Iron Box was given to a family.
July 2005:
“The Samuel project” provided 110 children with Bed Sheets, Horlicks, Biscuits, TiffinBox, Towels, Mats, Water Bottles, & Toys. A Mission Team from USA visited our projects & contributed 5 Catamarams helping 20 families.
September2005:
Foster Care support was extended to 225 Tsunami victim children and 10 SHG for Women were Formed.

October 2005:
The second Tailoring School became functional, 25 Fishermen families received 5 Boats & nets. zones 1,2 & 10 saw the start of 28 Women's Self Help Groups.
November 2005:
Chennai & Thiruvallur Dist. saw the formation of 14 Women's Self Help Groups.

December2005:
Home needs Packes distributed to 300 families. Christmas party for 1300 Women and all the Foster Care children. Helping Women to start business-a course by the Goverment was attented by 2 staff from EHSO.

 


January 2006:

3 Women’s Self Helf Groups were formed in Chennai Dist.

February 2006:
4 more Women’s Self Helf Groups were formed in Chennai Dist.

March 2006:
2 more Women’s Self Help Groups were formed in Chennai Dist .

April 2006:
23 Women’s Self Help Groups were formed in chennai Dist.,

May 2006:
11 Women’s Self Help Groups were formed in chennai Dist. The Peter, Naomi and Samual relief projects received their names from Biblical charachers.
Peter- a fisherman, naomi - a poor widow & Samuel-a child who served God. The tsunami victims are helped by these relief projects & are now supported through the Community Development Programmes.
